Andrew Garfield Is No Longer In ‘Frankenstein’ Cast, His Replacement Is Announced

Netflix’s upcoming ‘Frankenstein’ film has seen a major cast shift as Garfield has just stepped down.

Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of ‘Frankenstein’ for Netflix saw a casting shakeup. Actor Andrew Garfield has stepped down from his role as the monster, with Jacob Elordi now set to fill the pivotal role.

Announced on January 7, 2024, this change was reportedly a direct result of scheduling conflicts caused by strike postponements.

Elordi, known for his roles in films like ‘Saltburn’ and Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s ‘Priscilla,’ is joining an already impressive ensemble. The cast features Oscar Isaac in the role of Victor Frankenstein alongside Mia Goth, with performances expected from Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery.

Latest News About del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’

Del Toro is at the helm as writer, director, and producer, collaborating with J. Miles Dale, who previously worked on ‘Cabinet of Curiosities.’ This adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel will explore the tragic tale of a scientist whose creation leads to unforeseen consequences for both the creator and the creation.

Under development for some time, the project holds personal importance for del Toro, who has a deep interest in the Frankenstein story. Or, in his own words, who has a ‘Frankenstein fetish to a degree that is unhealthy.’

The film’s format, whether a period piece or set in modern times, remains undisclosed. Filming is scheduled to begin in February 2024.

Garfield and Elordi’s Upcoming Projects

As for Garfield, his departure paves the way for new projects. His upcoming slate includes two TV mini-series, ‘Brideshead Revisited’ and ‘Hot Air,’ as well as films ‘We Live in Time’ and ‘Voyagers.’

Meanwhile, Elordi’s busy schedule includes projects like ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North,’ ‘Parallel,’ ‘On Swift Horses,’ and ‘Oh Canada.’
