Margot Robbie Reacts To Lady Gaga Replacing Her As Harley Quinn

Margot Robbie’s reaction to be replaced by Lady Gaga in her role as Harley Quinn seemed positive, as she talked about it on a recent red carpet event.

Margot Robbie recently spoke with Variety about the news of Lady Gaga taking over the role of Harley Quinn in the upcoming movie ‘Joker: Folie à Deux.’ The chat took place at the Golden Globes 2024, where Robbie was a nominee for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

Asked about what she thought of seeing the singer as the DC character, the actress seemed happy about the change:

“Oh my God! She’s gonna crush it. Are you kidding? She’s gonna be amazing. I can’t wait to see it.”

Explaining whether she and Gaga talked about the new film, Robbie added:

“I actually haven’t spoken to her about it. I almost don’t wanna know so I can save it for the surprise when I get to see the movie.”

She’s Ready To Step Away From The Role

Robbie has played Harley Quinn in several films, starting with ‘Suicide Squad’ in 2016 and most recently in ‘The Suicide Squad’ in 2021. Previously, she mentioned her interest in seeing other actresses take on the role.

Talking about this in an interview with Variety, she shared:

“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. That was always the dream for her.”

Her words continued:

“Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”

Will She Ever Be Back As Harley Quinn?

There’s still a chance we might see Robbie as Harley Quinn again. The co-CEO of the DC Studios, James Gunn, expressed his interest in working with her in the future, potentially as the comic book character or in a different role.

Replying to a fan question on Threads about the actress’ remarks to Variety, he recently said:

“I haven’t talked to Margot about Harley for a long time. But I’d love to work with her again as Harley or as someone else. There are no plans at this time for anyone else to play Harley (I mean, other than in Todd’s [Phillips] movie or the animated show/s.)”

As of now, Margot Robbie’s future in the DC Cinematic Universe is not officially confirmed. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to seeing Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the ‘Joker’ sequel in October 2024.
