Hayley Atwell Reveals Patrick Stewart’s Hilarious Chair Fail In ‘Doctor Strange 2’

Atwell recalled how Stewart’s mechanical chair created a funny situation during a serious scene.

In a recent interview on Phase Zero’s Spotlight, Hayley Atwell shared a funny behind-the-scenes moment with Patrick Stewart from the set of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

During the conversation, Atwell told a humorous incident involving Stewart’s character, Professor X. The scene in question, part of the Illuminati sequence of Earth-838, presented a challenge — Stewart was required to enter the scene in a motorized yellow chair:

“I do remember on the day we had to wait when Patrick Stewart’s character turned up, there was this kind of gap. We were creating this sort of moment of suspense and tension within the scene. And all the actors who were there had sustained that, and they’re really concentrating hard.

And then when Patrick Stewart’s character comes through, there is this mechanical yellow car that is very slow coming up behind us and going, [buzzing sound]. We had to wait for it to swivel into position.”

According to Atwell, staying in character was especially challenging during those moments:

“So, the hardest thing to do was to keep the focus on how high the stakes were. We were undermined by this little robotic, delayed, perfectly comedic timing. There’s something going, [buzzing sound]!”

This incident, she notes, was one of the many unforeseen aspects of filming, especially under the pandemic protocols that were in place at the time.

Atwell’s full interview, where she also addresses theories about Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ can be watched below.

Atwell Has Two Future Projects on the Way

In the same interview, Atwell also spoke about her upcoming projects, including her role as the voice of Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ and her starring role in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.’

Meanwhile, Stewart, who expressed frustration and disappointment with his return as Professor X, does not have new projects announced currently. However, you can catch up on him with his recent interview, where he admitted Ian McKellen didn’t want him to star in Star Trek. Read the story here.
