In a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Alexandra Shipp expressed her disinterest in reprising her role as ‘Storm’ in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) X-Men reboot.
At the red carpet premiere of her latest film, ‘Anyone But You’ Shipp revealed her stance on returning to the superhero genre:
“You know, what’s kind of funny is no. Yeah. I’m not interested [in returning]. The thing is, what I love about the career that I’ve been able to form is that I can play many different things.”
Shipp also added that she has done enough with the character and is ready for new challenges:
“At this point, I feel like I’ve done what I needed to do with Storm. I think that there are other women who could take on that role and really kill it, and I support that. But for me, I just feel like I’m at a different place in my life.”

Shipp’s Role as Storm in MCU
Shipp first appeared as the weather-controlling mutant Storm in the 2016 film ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ This was a role previously portrayed by Halle Berry. Shipp continued this role through to ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix‘ in 2019 and even made a cameo in ‘Deadpool 2.‘
This isn’t the first time Shipp has shared her thoughts on the future of Storm. In a 2022 interview with ComicBookMovie, she voiced support for casting another actress in the role:
“In the future, I think I’d like to see a woman of darker complexion play Storm. I think it’s about time that we see that representation, and I’m more than happy to see that. I think it would be really great. The little girl in me would really like to see that.”
Recent appearances of Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast make it possible for more X-Men characters, including Storm, to possibly appear in future MCU projects like ‘Deadpool 3,‘ set for release on July 26th.
Shipp, meanwhile, has two upcoming projects, ‘Kung Fury: The Movie‘ and ‘Violent Ends (II),‘ both currently in post-production.
