James McAvoy Doesn’t Want To Get Into Trouble With ‘X-Men’ Comments

He said that he hasn’t talked to Marvel yet and is careful about what he says.

James McAvoy, who portrayed the younger Charles Xavier in the ‘X-Men’ franchise, recently addressed rumors about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) while talking to Entertainment Tonight.

During the interview, McAvoy was questioned about the likelihood of reprising his role as Professor X, especially in light of Hugh Jackman’s return in ‘Deadpool 3’ and Kelsey Grammer’s in ‘The Marvels.’ McAvoy responded cautiously, stating there has been no communication from Marvel regarding his return:

“Anything I say will get me in trouble. I’ve had no contact from them. If they want me to come back, they need to talk to me, need to be a good script, they need to want me, all that stuff. So, when stuff like that happens or doesn’t happen, that’s the reality of it.”

Still, McAvoy left the door open for speculation while confirming nothing.

Is McAvoy’s Return As Professor X Possible?

Speculation around McAvoy’s return is fueled by the recent trend of actors from previous X-Men films joining the MCU.

Patrick Stewart, who originally played an older Charles Xavier, appeared in the MCU’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ This move by Marvel has led fans to wonder if McAvoy could also make a comeback, possibly in projects like ‘Deadpool 3‘ or the forthcoming Avengers films, including ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.

Growing up watching the X-Men animated series, McAvoy initially took on the role of Professor X in 2010, joining a cast that included Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult. The series focused on the relationship between Professor X and Magneto and the origins of their groups.

McAvoy is currently involved in the projects ‘Speak No Evil,’ ‘Control,’ and ‘Turn Up the Sun!’ For now, the question of McAvoy’s return as Professor X remains unanswered.
