In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Dave Filoni expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming film ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu.’
During the conversation, Filoni shared his insights without delving much into the highly secretive Season 4 of ‘The Mandalorian.’ Instead, he redirected the focus to the new Mandalorian & Grogu film, praising Favreau’s deep understanding of the Star Wars universe:
“I’m excited about what we’re doing right now, but the movie, I think, is gonna be great. With Jon at the helm, it’s gonna be fantastic, and he’s so well-studied in Star Wars now, so he’s got a great shorthand, and I love collaborating with him. Just excited to share the future of what we’re doing.”
What We Know About ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Movie
The announcement of the ‘Mandalorian and Grogu’ film was met with positive reactions, especially considering the duo’s popularity since their debut on Disney+. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy described the project as a ‘perfect fit for the big screen.’ Jon Favreau also expressed his enthusiasm for expanding the stories set in Lucas’s universe, saying:
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
As for now, there is little to no information about the release date of the movie.
The Future of Star Wars Universe
Lucasfilm remains tight-lipped about the details of both the upcoming movie and the next season of ‘The Mandalorian.’ However, it is clear that the film, set for production later this year, will not replace the series’ fourth season. As per CBR, speculation suggests that the series could focus on Katee Sackhoff’s character, Bo-Katan Kryze, although confirmation is pending.
Filoni is also preparing to direct a crossover film set during The New Republic era. He aims to weave together narratives from ‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka,’ and ‘Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett.’
In addition to Favreau’s project, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is set to direct a film featuring Daisy Ridley as Rey. Other projects by James Mangold, Donald Glover, and Taika Waititi are also on the horizon.
