DCU’s ‘Plastic Man’ Movie Is Rumored To Be In Development With Darren Aronofsky

Aronofsky, known for ‘The Whale,’ might be making a movie about Plastic Man for the DCU.

The DC Universe (DCU) is possibly expanding with a new superhero movie. As per DCULeaks, there are rumors of a ‘Plastic Man’ film being in development, with Darren Aronofsky in discussions to helm the project.

Rumors around potential film began on February 10, when the DCULeaks subreddit account posted a tweet suggesting Aronofsky is bringing Plastic Man to the big screen for the DCU. While the news has yet to receive official confirmation, it caught the attention of James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, who commented on the rumor.

Although Gunn did not share any information about the Plastic Man movie, he left the door open for speculation:

“AT LEAST one of those things is not true. Have fun guessing!”

This isn’t the first time Plastic Man has been considered for a cinematic adaptation. Gunn revealed in 2023 his previous attempt to pitch a Plastic Man movie to Warner Bros., with Matthew Lillard proposed for the role. However, the project didn’t move forward at the time.

Fan Reactions Are Mixed

Despite his popularity in comic books, animated series, and video games, Plastic Man has yet to appear in a live-action film or television show.

As seen in the responses to DCULeaks’ tweet, many were surprised by Darren Aronofsky’s rumored involvement in the DCU project, given his track record with films that often explore complex characters:

“Yes. Darren Aronofsky… The Guy, who’s never done a comedy. For Plastic Man.”

Another one suggested that the movie may turn out to be a body horror version:

“Bro’s gonna make a body horror Plastic Man movie.”

Aronofsky is currently set to produce and executive produce four other projects — ‘The Tiger,’ ‘Pole to Pole,’ ‘XOXO,’ and ‘The Answers’ — his potential involvement in a Plastic Man movie remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the DCU is set to launch with two confirmed projects: the animated series ‘Creature Commandos,’ arriving later in 2024, and ‘Superman: Legacy.’
