Debuted during the Super Bowl on February 12, the trailer for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ hinted at a future where there will be an organization to replace SHIELD.
As per Screen Rant, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ introduces the Time Variance Authority (TVA) as SHIELD’s potential successor. The TVA, an organization with the authority to monitor the multiverse for threats, is set to be the new connective tissue in the MCU, recruiting heroes across different realities to face threats.
This move is also in parallel with the narrative direction set by the ‘Loki’ Season 2 finale.
The trailer keeps plot specifics under wraps but hints at a future where SHIELD’s mantle is passed on to the TVA and possibly other individuals and collectives. Figures such as The Watcher, Doctor Strange, Sam Wilson (the new Captain America), and Nick Fury, now heading SWORD, are set to play roles in assembling the next generation of heroes.
Other Details Seen in the ‘Deadpool 3’ Trailer
At the beginning of the trailer, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool declares himself as the ‘Messiah’ of the MCU, hinting at an essential role in reshaping the universe post-Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. The trailer also caused discussions online after some fans caught a glimpse of Doctor Doom, though Marvel has yet to confirm his appearance.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ arrives during a transformative period for the MCU, which has had mixed reactions to its Phase Four and Five projects. Matthew Vaughn, director of ‘X-Men: First Class,’ said he’s confident that the return of Reynolds and Jackman would revitalize the franchise.
As the 34th film in the Marvel Universe, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is slated for a July 26 release, with its blend of humor, action, and the potential for surprise appearances.
