‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ Stars Update Fans On The Show’s Future

Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson open up about the long-running sitcom’s future.

‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ wrapped up its 16th season in 2023 and set a record as the longest-running live-action American sitcom. Variety recently questioned the show’s stars about how many more seasons could be on the way. Glenn Howerton said on the red carpet:

“At least one more, for sure, I know that. Possibly two more. Possibly in perpetuity throughout the universe.”

Kaitlin Olson joked in a separate chat:

“Seventeen thousand. We’re gonna be really old by the time [it ends].”

She pointed at Danny DeVito and added:

“Look at this guy! We need to cram him in, you know what I mean? Just kidding, just kidding. He’ll outlive us all.”

The Next Season Is In The Works

FX renewed ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ for seasons 14 through 18 in 2020. Season 16 concluded in July 2023, but there are yet no details about what the upcoming episodes will bring.

It is expected that the regular cast including Howerton, Olson, DeVito, Charlie Day, and Rob McElhenney will return for the future seasons. Ryan Reynolds may also appear as a guest star in the next season.

McElhenney and Reynolds joined a Buzzfeed chat together last year. The show’s creator and star said back then:

“Mac needs a boyfriend.”

The ‘Deadpool’ actor showed interest in playing the hypothetical boyfriend. But, as of now, there’s no official release date for ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’ Season 17.
