Shogun Season 2 Might Happen Despite The Show Ended, The Creator Confirms

All the creators need is a new story to base Season 2 on.

‘Shogun’ was adapted as a miniseries from James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name. Co-creator Justin Marks is not sure about a new season without another material to work on. He recently explained to The Hollywood Reporter:

“I think if we had a story, if we could find a story, we would be open to it. But I don’t think that anyone ever wants to be out over their skis without a roadmap and everything. And it’s also just about, do people want more of it?”

The Hulu series saw English sailor John Blackthorne shipwrecked on the Japanese shores in the early 17th century. His path crossed with Lord Toranaga and samurai Lady Mariko throughout the story.

The Team Wants To Stay Loyal To The Book

Clavell never wrote a sequel for his original novel. He instead created new stories set in different time periods and countries for his ‘Asian Saga.’

Marks previously mentioned not wanting to drift away from the source:

“We took the story to the end of the book and put a period at the end of that sentence. We love how the book ends; it was one of the reasons why we both knew we wanted to do it — and we ended in exactly that place. And I’ve been party to this in the past with shows like this, where you build a whole factory, and it only pumps out 10 cars and closes up shop. It’s a bummer.”

‘Shogun’ finale aired earlier this week. The ten-episode miniseries starred Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, and Anna Sawai.
