Robert Downey Jr. Shouldn’t Be Back As Iron Man According To Avengers: Endgame Directors

The actor wants to reprise his MCU role, but the ‘Endgame’ directors don’t believe it’s possible.

Robert Downey Jr. said he would ‘happily’ return to the MCU although Tony Stark died in 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ But the Russo Brothers told GamesRadar+ that they see no clear path for bringing the hero back. Anthony Russo shared:

“I don’t know how they would do it. I don’t know what the road to that would be [laughs].”

His brother, Joe, added:

“I mean we closed that book so it would be up to them to figure out how to reopen it.”

The Actor Is Willing To Return

Right now, there are no announced plans for RDJ’s return as Iron Man. After ‘Endgame,’ the actor took on other roles including one in 2023’s ‘Oppenheimer.’ The part earned him his first Academy Award.

Still, he discussed his possible comeback to Marvel with Esquire Magazine in early April and said:

“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me. And look, I always say, ‘Never, ever bet against Kevin Feige.’ It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”

The Studio Has No Plans To Bring Him Back

Kevin Feige previously talked to Vanity Fair about the rumors of Iron Man’s return. He made it clear that they do not plan to change the story of his death in ‘Endgame.’ His words read:

“We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that, and we would never want to magically undo it in any way.”

Marvel did bring back a few other heroes, though. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will come back with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in this summer’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’
