Anne Hathaway Admits Sex Scenes In New Film Became Her ‘North Star’

In ‘The Idea of You,’ Hathaway portrays a 40-year-old mother who enters a romantic relationship with a pop star. The film will premiere on Amazon Prime Video this May.

Anne Hathaway says the sex scenes in ‘The Idea Of You’ became her new ‘North Star’ when it comes to cinematic sex.

One of the key parts of ‘The Idea Of You’ is how it deals with love scenes. Both Hathaway and director Michael Showalter wanted to keep these scenes real and respectful without going too far. Hathaway told Variety that she was really inspired by the book the movie is based on, and it guided them for the other steamy scenes in the movie:

“I was inspired by [Robinne Lee’s novel on which the film is based] in terms of … what’s the polite way of saying … intimate acts! In the book, Robinne describes intimate acts with the most unbelievable energy. In their first physical sexual connection, Hayes brings Solène to orgasm while [she is fully] clothed. That became our North Star in terms of expressing cinematic sex in a way that makes it about her pleasure, while also making the point that a huge part of pleasure is giving someone else pleasure.”

Hathaway And Showalter Worked Closely For The Film

Hathaway plays a 40-year-old single mom who falls in love with a younger pop star in ‘The Idea Of You.’

She teamed up with Michael Showalter for the movie, but Showalter didn’t make a romantic comedy before. The two didn’t know each other well before this project as well. They first crossed paths at a Hollywood party in 2022, but they admit they were both too shy to talk much.

Hathaway believes Showalter is the perfect choice as the director.

‘The Idea of You’ starts streaming on Amazon Prime Video this May 2. You can watch its trailer below.
