Game Of Thrones Creator Teases New Prequel: ‘It’s Going To Be Different’

George R.R. Martin reveals the current status of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.’

George R.R. Martin has exciting new details about the upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.’

Martin shared on his blog that the new series will be much shorter with just six episodes. He also said that it will have a different tone compared to the previous series:

“‘The Hedge Knight’ will be a lot shorter than ‘Game of Thrones’ or ‘House of the Dragon,’ with a much different tone… but it’s still Westeros, so no one is truly safe. Ira Parker and his team are doing a great job. Oh, and we have our director as well: Owen Harris, a terrific British director whose credits include helming ‘San Junipero,’ my all-time favorite episode of ‘Black Mirror.’ Owen will direct three of our six episodes.”

Production For ‘The Hedge Knight’ Is Underway

‘The Hedge Knight’ is set a century before the events of Game of Thrones. It follows Ser Duncan the Tall, a brave but naive knight, and his small squire Egg, a young Aegon V Targaryen. The Targaryen family still rules the Iron Throne in this era, and the memory of the last dragon has not faded.

Martin says most of the auditions are completed, the first table read took place and went very well. Characters cast so far include Tanselle, Steely Pate, Baelor Breakspear, the Laughing Storm, several Fossoways, Aerion Brightflame, and Prince Maekar.

Martin also plans to visit the shoot in Belfast this July and hopes to adapt more stories from the ‘Dunk & Egg’ series if ‘The Hedge Knight’ is successful.

‘The Hedge Knight’ is set to debut next year.
