‘Fall Of The House Of Usher’ Star Carla Gugino: I’m Not A Horror Fan

But Netflix’s gothic horror drama is an exception for her.

Carla Gugino starred in Netflix’s miniseries ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ last year. She recently talked about the show in a chat with The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress pointed to Mike Flanagan’s writing as a reason for her involvement in the show despite not liking horror:

“I’m not a horror fan, per se. ‘Usher’ has darkly comedic elements and flashy characters that don’t normally exist in horror. It deals with societal stuff in very profound ways. I’ve had so many people in our business tell me, ‘I wasn’t going to watch it, and I ended up being riveted. I loved it.’”

The show loosely adapted multiple Edgar Allan Poe works into a non-linear story going from 1953 to 2023.

The Netflix Horror Drama’s Story

‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ focused on the rise and fall of Roderick Usher and his sister Madeline as the CEO and COO of a corrupt pharmaceutical company. Family secrets came out one by one following Usher children’s mysterious deaths.

Carla Gugino played a woman named Verna from Roderick and Madeline’s past coming back to prey on them for the series’ eight episodes.

Mike Flanagan directed the Netflix show along with Michael Fimognari. Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Henry Thomas, and Kate Siegel starred opposite Gugino.
