Sir Ian McKellen Teases ‘The Hunt For Gollum’ Appearance as Gandalf

McKellen is interested but has a unique condition for his return.

Sir Ian McKellen hinted that he might return as Gandalf in the upcoming movie ‘The Hunt for Gollum.’

McKellen, who is now 85 years old, said there is a condition for his return. He said he would reprise his role as Gandalf if he is still alive when the movie starts filming. He humorously commented on his age and the uncertainty of future projects, stating:

“If you want to know that you are mortal you just have to look at your address book. And so when a script comes through, or the hint of an offer, you think, ‘This might be my last job. No. I’m not doing that.’ So if ‘Falstaff’ is my last job, I’d better get it right, hadn’t I? … And I haven’t shaved in months. But there is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan. … If I’m alive.”

The Film is Coming In 2026

‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is part of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ franchise and is set to be released in 2026. Peter Jackson, who directed the original trilogy, will be producing this new film. Andy Serkis, who played Gollum in the films, will reprise his role and also direct the movie.

So far, Serkis is the only confirmed actor for the film. There are rumors that Viggo Mortensen might come back as Aragorn, but nothing is official yet. It appears Sir Ian McKellen is interested in returning as the wise wizard.
