Ariana Grande Speaks Out On Nickelodeon Controversy: ‘I’m Upset’

She is calling for changes to make sure children are safer and better cared for on set.

Ariana Grande finally spoke about the new docuseries ‘Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.’

Grande shared her thoughts on the Popcrushed podcast. She said that the environment for child actors needs to be safer. She thinks there should be therapists available and that parents should be allowed on set:

“I think the environment needs to be made safer if kids are going to be acting, and I think there should be therapists. I think parents should allowed to be wherever they want to be, and I think not only on kids’ sets. If anyone wants to do this, or music, or anything at this level of exposure, there should be in the contract something about therapy is mandatory twice a week or thrice a week, or something like that.”

‘Quiet on Set’ talks about the problems kids face when working on TV shows. Grande wants changes to make sure children are treated better in the entertainment industry.

Grande Rose To Fame With Nickelodeon

Ariana Grande became famous on Nickelodeon before she started her music career. She starred in Dan Schneider’s ‘Sam and Cat’ with Jennette McCurdy. ‘Quiet on Set’ claims that Schneider acted inappropriately and made the set a bad place to work. Schneider is now suing the people who made the show because of these claims.

Grande also talked about her own experience on ‘Sam and Cat.’ She said that she thought the show’s humor was ‘cool’ because it pushed boundaries. But now, looking back, she feels ‘upset’:

“I think that was something that we were convinced was the cool thing about us — is that we pushed the envelope with our humor. And the innuendos were… it was like the cool differentiation. And I don’t know, I think it just all happened so quickly, and now looking back on some of the clips I’m like, ‘Damn, really? Oh sh*t’… and the things that weren’t approved for the network were snuck onto like our website or whatever. I guess I’m upset, yeah.”

Dan Schneider responded to the docuseries by denying he ever intended to include inappropriate jokes in his shows. He said he wants these jokes to be cut from reruns. His representative added that all content on his shows was reviewed by adults and approved by the network.

Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV is currently available for streaming on Max.
