Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios are working on a new animated series about ‘Blue Beetle.’
As per Deadline, Miguel Puga is developing the show. Puga is known for his work on ‘The Casagrandes,’ and he will serve as the showrunner and director. Cristian Martinez, who worked on ‘Women of the Movement’ and ‘Good Trouble,’ is the writer.
The creators of the 2023 Blue Beetle movie, director Angel Manuel Soto and screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, will be executive producers for the animated series. John Rikard, who was also an executive producer on the film, will continue in the same role. Galen Vaisman will oversee the project for DC Studios.
The animated series will build on the movie but will have its own story. There’s even a chance that it could lead to another movie if it does well.
Original Film Was About Jaime Reyes
The original film focused on Jaime Reyes. He’s the third person to become Blue Beetle in the comics. Jaime is a popular teenager from El Paso who recently graduated from college.
Jaime returns home to figure out his future in the film. He takes a job with his younger sister Milagro and soon gets into a conflict with Victoria Kord from Kord Industries while protecting her niece, Jenny. Jaime accidentally finds an alien scarab that turns him into Blue Beetle. This disrupts Kord Industries’ plans for world domination.
The movie starred Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, Belissa Escobedo as Milagro, Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, and Bruna Marquezine as Jenny. Other cast members included George Lopez, Adrianna Barraza, Damián Alcázar, Elpidia Carrillo, Harvey Guillén, Raoul Trujillo, and Becky G, who voiced Khaji-Da, the AI in Jaime’s Blue Beetle suit.
D.C. Studios and Warner Bros. Animation didn’t comment on the news. Still, sources say that they approached some main cast members to return, and these names responded positively.
