Marvel’s Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Fantastic Four’ Is A Period Piece

The head of Marvel Studios shared new updates about the upcoming MCU film’s production and setting.

Kevin Feige confirmed during a recent appearance on the ‘Official Marvel Podcast’ that ‘The Fantastic Four’ will be set in an alternate-reality 1960s. He said:

“Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period. There were a lot of smart people, who noticed that that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know, or that existed in the ‘60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I’ll say.”

Marvel got the rights to the Fantastic Four after Disney bought 21st Century Fox in 2019. The studio started to bring the franchise characters back starting with John Krasinski’s Reed Richards in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’

Feige commented on the upcoming film:

“I’m extremely excited by it because I think [the Fantastic Four] are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we’ve never gotten to play with or explore in a significant way outside of ‘Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness’ and a few fun teases before, in the way that we’re doing it in that film. So, I’m extremely excited for that.”

Filming Will Start Soon

The producer also shared some news about the production start:

“We start shooting at the end of July. The day after Comic-Con [International: San Diego] is the first day of filming on Fantastic Four.”

Principal photography for ‘The Fantastic Four’ will take place in London. Matt Shakman will direct the script he co-wrote with Josh Friedman, Cam Squires, and Eric Pearson.

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will lead the cast as Marvel’s First Family. Julia Garner and Ralph Ineson will join them as the Silver Surfer/Shalla-Bal and Galactus.

Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne will also appear in the upcoming film as currently-unknown characters.

‘The Fantastic Four’ will premiere in the US on July 25, 2025, as part of the MCU’s Phase Six.
