Actress Emma Roberts reveals why ‘Madame Web’ did not do well.
She thinks that social media and the way people make fun of things online played a big part in the film’s failure. Roberts told Variety:
“I personally really loved ‘Madame Web.’ I really enjoyed the movie. I thought everyone in it was great. The director, S.J. Clarkson, I think did an amazing job. She’s the reason I wanted to do that movie. If it wasn’t for internet culture and everything being made into a joke, I think that the reception would’ve been different. And that’s what bums me out about a lot of stuff, even stuff that I’ve done, is people just make such a joke out of everything now.”
‘Madame Web’ came out earlier this year but disappointed both audiences and critics. There was a lot of excitement about the movie at first, but things changed when the first trailer came out. After that, opinions got worse, and the movie ended up being one of the biggest flops of 2024.
Roberts’ Recipe For A Successful Movie
After talking about ‘failures,’ Roberts talked about what makes a movie successful. She said she believes that timing and luck are important for a movie to do well:
“Things work; things don’t work. Everyone likes to act like they can predict if they’re going to work or they’re not. And the truth is, you can’t. Things do badly, and then they blow up later on TikTok. Things do well, but then you watch them, and you’re like, ‘This did well?’ There is no secret.”
Roberts also said she is not scared of failure or people’s negative thoughts.
Other stars of ‘Madame Web’ also had their thoughts about its failure. Sydney Sweeney joked about it on Saturday Night Live, and Dakota Johnson was disappointed with the changes made to the project after she joined.
