Marvel Animation decides to choose Matthew Chauncey as the new head writer for ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 3.
As per Deadline, Chauncey will replace Beau DeMayo, who was the creator and head writer for the first two seasons. DeMayo left the project before its March 20 premiere this year.
Matthew Chauncey has been involved in Marvel projects before. He worked as a writer and producer on ‘What If…?’ since its first season.
Chauncey will team up with X-Men ’97 director Jake Castorena and consulting producers Larry Houston, Eric Lewald, and Julia Lewald in his new role. The Lewalds were showrunners and executive producers on the original ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’
‘Season 2’ Is In Production
Season 2 was ordered by Marvel Studios at the same time as Season 1. The plot details for Season 2 aren’t officially revealed, but executive producer Brad Winderbaum hinted that they have big plans:
“We’ve got big plans for the second season. I’ve already seen all the animatics and we’re well on our way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season. I know the first season is an emotional ride; that ride continues in a very ‘X-Men’ fashion in the second season.”
‘X-Men ’97’ first premiered on March 20 on Disney+ and was well-received. It was also popular on Disney+ — the premiere episode got four million views worldwide within just five days. Season 1 has ten episodes and takes place one year after the end of the original animated series. The story follows the X-Men as they face new challenges under the leadership of Magneto, who used to be their enemy.
Marvel Animation is also working on several other animated shows. These include ‘What If…?’ Season 3, ‘Eyes of Wakanda,’ ‘Marvel Zombies,’ and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Seasons 1 and 2. ‘What If…?,’ ‘Marvel Zombies,’ and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ take place in alternate timelines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ‘Eyes of Wakanda,’ however, is connected directly to the MCU.
You can stream the first season of ‘X-Men ’97’ on Disney+. The release date for Season 2 isn’t yet announced.
