Rebel Wilson Needs Your Help To Save Her Film ‘The Deb’

She says the film’s producers are blocking it after she reported their bad behavior.

Rebel Wilson is asking for help to save her first film as a director, ‘The Deb.’ Wilson claims the producers of the film are blocking its release after she reported them for inappropriate behavior.

Wilson shared her frustrations on Instagram and revealed why it may not come out in theaters:

“I made this great movie, ‘The Deb,’ and then now, almost at the finish line, they’re saying it can’t come out, they might not release it, they might bury it. This is the work of hundreds of people who put their heart and soul into this, and this behavior is absolutely vile and disgusting. If the movie doesn’t play at Toronto, it’s because of these absolute f*ckwits.”

She also wrote the following on her Instagram Story:

“If anyone can help save my joyous original musical then please DM me.”

She Thinks It’s Devastating

Wilson also said she was excited when her movie was chosen for the closing night of the Toronto Film Festival. But now, the producers are saying it can’t be shown there:

“You might have noticed that I did a post a week ago about my film — the first film that I’ve directed that I’m so proud of, ‘The Deb’ — that it got selected for closing night of the Toronto Film Festival, which is like the hugest, best platform. And to be a first-time female director, it’s just like, I mean, it’s huge. It’s massive. So to have the joy of the movie being selected is one thing but then to have the business partners that are involved in that movie turn around and say that no, the movie can’t premiere, is just beyond devastating.”

She also wrote the following in the post’s caption:

“If my movie gets buried, at least you know why.”

Wilson says she worked hard on the movie and was looking forward to its big debut, so that’s why she’s devastated.

It All Started Back In October 2023

That was when Wilson discovered that producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and executive producer Vince Holden were behaving abusively. She reported this behavior but didn’t specify where she made the report. Since then, she claims the producers are making her life difficult and trying to ruin her work on the film.

The three producers now filed a defamation lawsuit against Wilson, saying she is spreading lies and trying to bully them. They accuse her of refusing to work with them, disappearing from the film for months, and behaving unprofessionally:

“This lawsuit is about holding Rebel accountable for her attempts to bully Plaintiffs into conceding to her unreasonable demands by spreading vicious lies without regard for the irreparable damage her reckless words would cause on the hard-earned personal and professional reputations of Plaintiffs. Rebel was expected to collaborate with the Plaintiffs in good faith, stay on schedule, and behave professionally when on the job. This, apparently, was too much to ask of her. She flatly refused to collaborate with Plaintiffs, absconded from the Film for months at a time, behaved unprofessionally with employees of the Film, and repeatedly made unauthorized and improper disclosures about the Film.”

They also say Wilson’s actions are harming their reputations and the film itself.

Wilson strongly disagrees and asks her fans for support.

The Toronto International Film Festival has not responded to questions about the situation. Their official schedule for this year’s festival will be released on August 13.
