Dan Aykroyd Shares One Thing He Was Angry About ‘Ghostbusters’ All-Female Reboot

Dan Aykroyd was upset about something in ‘Ghostbusters.’

In a recent interview with People, Dan Aykroyd, known for his role in the original ‘Ghostbusters,’ supported the 2016 all-female reboot but he is still angry about something:

“I liked the movie Paul Feig made with those spectacular women. I was mad at them at the time because I was supposed to be a producer on there and I didn’t do my job and I didn’t argue about costs. And it cost perhaps more than it should, and they all do. All these movies do.”

Aykroyd also said he loved the film and its villain. He praised the cast—Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kristen Wiig—and said he’s proud to have been part of the movie.

The Cast Defended The Movie

However, the film faced some online racist and sexist criticism. The 2016 reboot cast, including McCarthy and Jones, have talked about the hate they received. In her memoir, ‘Leslie F*cking Jones,’ Jones mentioned the ‘online abuse’ she faced and how it was very hard on her. She said:

“Bringing up the idea of giving the movie ‘back to the fans’ was a pretty clear shout-out to all those losers who went after us for making an all-female [movie].”

She added:

“Why are people being so evil to each other? How can you sit and type ‘I want to kill you.’ Who does that? Sad keyboard warriors living in their mother’s basements hated the fact that this hallowed work of perfect art now featured — gasp! horror! — women in the lead roles. Worst of all, of course, was that one of the lead characters was a Black woman. For som,e men this was the final straw.”

McCarthy also defended the reboot by expressing confusion over the strong negative reactions it received. She said the backlash was both sexist and racist, especially towards Jones. McCarthy added that there’s space for different stories and reboots and didn’t get why there was so much hate against the film.
