Jennifer Garner Reveals Her Intense Workout Plan To Get ‘Marvel-Fit’

Garner revealed her tough workout plan to get ready for her role as Elektra in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

Jennifer Garner shared her intense workout plan to get in shape for her role as Elektra in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

In an Instagram video posted on Monday, Garner detailed how she had to become ‘Marvel fit’ for her cameo as the sai-wielding assassin. She admitted:

“Other than trying to convince my kids’ preschool buddies that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not Marvel fit.”

Her workout routine was quite intense and included a variety of exercises. Garner trained with sai weapons, did aerobics, swimming, boxing, weight lifting, running, jump rope, and rowing. She worked out once a day, plus additional exercises assigned by her trainer. Garner boxed three times a week with her boxing coach and did a lot of Peloton workouts with Becs Gentry.

She also trained with her stunt double, and together they called their training time ‘SuperHeroSummer.’

Her Return Was Planned Long Ago

Garner’s return as Elektra came about while working with Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy on the 2022 film ‘The Adam Project.’ She said that they had the idea for Elektra to appear in the new ‘Deadpool’ movie during their time on set together.

Garner first played Elektra in the 2003 movie ‘Daredevil’ and starred in the 2005 spinoff ‘Elektra.’ These movies didn’t do well, but she got the chance to play the character again in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ She felt this gave Elektra a proper farewell in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did. They are gifted in many ways, but seeing and elevating people around them is at the top of the list.”

Garner shared her excitement about filming with friends Hugh Jackman, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, and Wesley Snipes. She enjoyed shooting the fight scenes and felt grateful to be part of the project with such a talented cast.
