Zach Braff Admits ‘Scrubs’ Final Season Wasn’t Necessary

The medical comedy-drama ran for nine seasons from 2001 to 2010 on NBC. But Braff recently implied that the final season was too much for him.

Zach Braff revealed in a recent chat on Michael Rosenbaum’s ‘Inside of You’ podcast that the ‘Scrubs’ cast was worn out by the time Season 9 went in production.

“By the time nine years were over, we were sort of all exhausted by it,” the actor said (per Variety). “I felt like, at the time, we were starting to repeat jokes. Everyone was pretty fried. We would do insane hours that people don’t even do anymore. We didn’t really have much of a life outside of it.”

The show’s final season received mixed reactions from fans and critics as they believed Season 8 was enough to wrap the story up. The introduction of new cast members alongside returning actors like Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and John C. McGinley also caused some criticism at the time.

The network decided to cancel the show following the release of Season 9. Still, creator Bill Lawrence recently hinted at a chance to revive it despite the cast’s busy schedules with other projects.

“When we signed up to do our shows, they put you under a pretty insane contract of like seven years and stuff, which I wouldn’t do,” Braff shared when asked if he would return for a reboot. “But some sort of talk of a limited thing, you’re basically saying, ‘Do you wanna go get the gang back together and fucking laugh your ass off with some of your best friends and be paid well?’”

Bill Lawrence is currently promoting his new black comedy-drama series, ‘Bad Monkey,’ for Warner Bros. TV. The show premiered on August 14.
