Simu Liu Asks Marvel To Bring Michelle Yeoh Back For ‘Shang-Chi 2’

Simu Liu hopes Michelle Yeoh will be back for the sequel.

At Fan Expo Canada, Simu Liu spoke with Collider and talked about wanting Michelle Yeoh to come back for ‘Shang-Chi 2.’

“When we shared our scenes together, and I had the opportunity to fight her, it was more of a dance fight,” the actor said. “First of all, I was really nervous, and, second of all, she’s so petite and graceful, and I just felt like a big clumsy chunk of meat just flopping around.”

Liu continued, “It worked for the scene, right? She’s trying to kind of teach me to find harmony with my body, and it’s very Tai Chi oriented. So it’s very flowy, she’s kind of guiding you through, and I’m like stumbling. I didn’t have to do a lot to get into character, and she’s great. Just the absolute best kind of person to hang out with.”

Yeoh gained even more fame after winning the Best Actress Oscar for ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once,’ which also won Best Picture. In ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,’ she played Ying Nan, who protected Ta Lo and helped Shang-Chi become a hero.

“Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed,” Liu previously told Collider. “It feels like we’ve established a world and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we’ve spent so much time ideating on and thinking about.”

The actor added the following about Yeoh, “That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She’s on top of the world and just the queen of everything.”

Liu more recently shared an update for the sequel. “It’s definitely happening,” he said. “I should probably lead with that. And I think I speak for myself and Destin, our returning director, when I say that we’re so beyond excited to jump back in. We really are.”

No official release date has been set for ‘Shang-Chi 2,’ but rumors say it might come out in 2025, before ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.’ Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed the first ‘Shang-Chi’ film, is expected to return as the director for the sequel.
