Amy Adams’ Dramedy ‘Nightbitch’ Receives Backlash For Highly Controversial Abuse Scenes

The film follows a mother who starts experiencing strange changes while raising her child.

Amy Adams’ new movie ‘Nightbitch’ had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 7, but it raised some eyebrows.

Directed by Marielle Heller, the film is based on a book by Rachel Yoder and tells the story of a mother, played by Adams, who pauses her career as an artist to take care of her child. She starts to experience strange changes over time as if she might be turning into a dog.

As per Variety, the film includes some controversial and graphic scenes that caused backlash from the audience. Viewers reacted strongly to moments like the cutting of a tail, a shower scene involving menstruation, and the killing of a house cat during the premiere.

These scenes made some people uncomfortable, even though parts of the movie also had lighter moments that got laughs from the crowd.

‘Nightbitch’ is set to hit theaters on December 6, and the response at TIFF has been mixed. Adams has been nominated for six Oscars in the past, but it’s uncertain if this film will be a major contender for awards due to the graphic content and the backlash.

Searchlight Pictures, the studio behind the film, may focus on other movies during awards season, such as Jesse Eisenberg’s drama ‘A Real Pain’ and James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown,’ starring Timothée Chalamet.
