Jared Leto Eyed For ‘Skeletor’ Role In ‘Masters Of The Universe’

The film will follow He-Man as he tries to stop Skeletor from taking over Eternia and the universe.

Jared Leto might be the main villain in the upcoming ‘Masters of the Universe’ reboot.

According to reports by InSneider, Amazon offered the actor the chance to play Skeleton in the film. Skeletor is known for trying to conquer the planet Eternia and the universe by uncovering the secrets of Castle Grayskull. He was last played by Frank Langella in the 1987 ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie.

This new reboot is building an impressive cast. ‘Community’s Alison Brie has already joined as Evil-Lyn, Skeletor’s right-hand character. ‘The Idea of You’s Nicholas Galitzine will play He-Man, the hero of the franchise. ‘Riverdale’ star Camila Mendes will be Teela, captain of the royal guard and possible love interest for He-Man.

Mendes recently shared her excitement for the role on Instagram, saying “stoked to get yoked, still can’t believe this is real.” Her involvement in ‘Masters of the Universe’ means she had to drop out of a planned sequel to ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer.’

Jared Leto played The Joker in ‘Suicide Squad’ (2016), Niander Wallace in ‘Blade Runner 2049’ (2017), and Morbius in ‘Morbius’ (2022). He recently appeared in ‘Haunted Mansion’ (2023) as the Hatbox Ghost. He’s set to star in ‘Tron: Ares’ alongside Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jeff Bridges.

‘Masters of the Universe’ will be directed by Travis Knight. The story follows Prince Adam, a 10-year-old boy who crashes to Earth and gets separated from his magical Power Sword. He finds the sword two decades later and returns to Eternia to stop Skeletor. But he has to learn more about his past and become He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.

The movie is set to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
