‘Wednesday’ Has A Long Future Ahead, Co-Creator Teases

The ‘Wednesday’ creators are thinking ahead to a possible Season 3 and 4.

Production for ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 is already underway, and co-creator Al Gough says the future of the show could extend far beyond that.

‘Wednesday’ wrapped up its first season with a complete story, but it also left some hints about what might come next. The show set up a mysterious stalker and teased the return of the Hyde.

Gough told Collider that the team didn’t want to leave too many loose ends without knowing if there would be more seasons. They are keeping the storyline flexible as they move forward with Season 2. “It’s not like, ‘Oh, we’re just making one cake this season, then we’ll figure out the next cake next season,'” he explained.

Gough and his creative partner Miles Millar learned from their time working on ‘Smallville’ that it’s important to have a general idea of where the show is going but remain open to change. Gough says they have a ‘loose idea’ of where they want each season to end, but they let the story evolve naturally as they write.

“I think here, again, we have the signposts, an idea of where we want to get each season,” he said while explaining their thought process. “But then we also open it up to, when we’re breaking the season, we’re seeing what stories for us are interesting, what characters are interesting. Then when you start shooting it you’re like, ‘Okay.'”

Audience reactions also play a big role in shaping the show. ‘Wednesday’ will focus more on horror and creepy elements in Season 2 after receiving some criticism for the love triangle in Season 1. The show is also leaning into a more cinematic style with a heavier focus on action and new cast members like Steve Buscemi, Christopher Lloyd, and Thandiwe Newton.

Gough explained that making a show is a learning process, and they are still figuring out what ‘Wednesday’ does best. “We have ideas for Season 3 and Season 4,” he admitted. “We also know that none of those things are set in stone because things could change and we could come up with something better as we’re going along.”

There is no release date for Season 2, but it likely won’t be available until late next year.
