Dylan O’Brien Shares His ‘Disappointing’ Audition For ‘Frozen 2’

The actor revealed that he gave singing a shot during an audition for the animated musical, even though it’s not his strong suit.

Dylan O’Brien shared his failed audition for ‘Frozen 2’ during a recent appearance on ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers.’

He did not specify which role he tried out for but noted, “They’re looking for multitalented, multi-hyphenate people who can act and sing. And I didn’t check, to be honest, probably either.”

The ‘Teen Wolf’ star said that despite knowing he couldn’t sing, he auditioned anyway because he didn’t always feel like a “real actor.”

“This poor woman,” the actor commented on the casting director’s reaction to his singing attempt. “I remember, actually — this is a specific detail — she asked me, painfully, if I could get to the chorus because she needed to see if I had a certain range.”

O’Brien admitted he struggled through the first verse but eventually attempted the higher notes, as requested. “It was really bad,” he added. “I knew. She knew. It’s okay.” Meyers then asked, “Did she know you knew?”

“I think so, because when she said to me, ‘Okay, okay’… She said two ‘okays.’ I’ll never forget it,” the actor recalled. “And then she said, ‘Thank you for coming in. I think we’d probably need a bit of a stronger singer,’ and I was already just nodding, going, ‘Yeah, I know.’ I was like, ‘Thanks for having me.’”

‘Frozen 2’ premiered in November 2019, featuring returning stars Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell as Elsa and Anna. Other cast members included Josh Gad as Olaf, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, Martha Plimpton as Northuldra chief Yelena, and Sterling K. Brown as Arendelle lieutenant Mattias.
