Elizabeth Olsen: ‘Marvel’s CGI Use Makes Me Feel Like A 7 Year Old’

She believes it would be eye-opening for fans to see a version without any special effects.

Elizabeth Olsen recently shared her thoughts about what it’s like working with heavy CGI in those films.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she explained how acting in front of a green screen can be difficult when the whole scene depends on visual effects.

Olsen said that playing the Scarlet Witch feels like a 7-year-old kid because there’s nothing around to interact with. “It’s like acting with nothing,” she said. “You really have to embrace this dumb point of view, where you feel like a 7-year-old playing make-believe. I do believe that at some point they should release a full version of one of the movies, without any of the special effects so people can see how hard it is.”

Her character’s magical powers are completely created with CGI. This means when she’s on set, she’s mostly just waving her arms or making hand symbols without seeing the final product.

She’s not the only Marvel actor who deals with this. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor also relies heavily on visual effects. He has to pretend his hammer brings lightning

Olsen previously revealed that she never actually met John Krasinski during the making of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ Marvel’s advanced technology means actors don’t even have to be in the same room to appear together on screen.

Whether Olsen will return to Marvel as the Scarlet Witch is still up in the air.

She said she’d be open to coming back if the right writers are involved, but nothing has been confirmed yet. In the first episode of ‘Agatha All Along,’ Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness finds what seems to be Wanda’s body in the woods. As Agatha’s new storyline involves a group of witches, Wanda could show up again.
