Johnny Depp spoke to the press about his upcoming biographical drama, ‘Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness,’ ahead of its theatrical release on December 5. He likened his own life to the film’s lead Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani’s, joking that it turned into a ‘soap opera’ after the defamation trial with Amber Heard.
“Each [character] has their story because I’m sure we can say that I’ve been through number of things here and there. Maybe yours didn’t turn into a soap opera. I mean, literally, televised,” the actor said, making the crowd laugh.
He continued, “But we all go through what we go through. So, to see these people on the verge of earning their stripes… There’s something beautiful to me about those days living in a tiny studio apartment just off Hollywood Boulevard in a dangerous neighborhood. (Laughs.) They were tough. They were rough, ugly; they were weird, all kinds of stuff, but they were beautiful.”

Depp directed ‘Modi’ from a screenplay written by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski. The cast featured Italian actor Riccardo Scamarcio as Modigliani, along with Antonia Desplat, Al Pacino, and Stephen Graham.
The film premiered at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival on September 24, 2024. It is set to screen at the Rome Film Festival on October 26 before opening in Italian theaters in December.
‘Modi – Three Days on the Wing of Madness’ is the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star’s second directorial work. His debut was 1997’s ‘The Brave.’
