Following Netflix’s live-action remake and an upcoming ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ animated film, Paramount Game Studios and Saber Interactive will now develop ‘the biggest video game in the franchise’s history.’ Writing is still in progress for the game that is expected to launch the ‘Avatar Legends’ universe (per IGN).
The creators of the original show are involved in the untitled RPG through the Avatar Studios, meaning the prequel’s story is part of the canon. Paramount Game Studios confirmed that the game will introduce a new Avatar, one that has never been seen before.
“[Fans] can expect to be immersed in a vibrant world, master all four elements, engage in dynamic combat alongside companions, and experience the challenges and decisions that come with being the keeper of balance in the world,” Saber Interactive recently promised in a statement.
“At Saber, we are all truly fans of the IP we work with,” Josh Austin further shared. “Our team members are some of the most devoted, passionate creatives out there and it’s an honor to join forces with Avatar Studios and Paramount Games to further expand the Avatar Legends universe in video games.”
“This unique co-fund structure is a result of our ever-expanding collaboration with Paramount, which started over a decade ago with WWZ, and we’re excited for all that’s on the horizon,” he added.
‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ will also get a competitive multiplayer game from Maximum Entertainment and Paramount Consumer Products next year. It’s unclear when Saber Interactive’s new RPG will come out, though.
