Showrunners Say ‘Superman & Lois’ Finale Will Make You Miss The Show

The CW will air the early finale on October 7.

‘Superman & Lois’ will wrap up its story with the upcoming fourth season. Though some plotlines will be dropped to ensure the finale works, the showrunners promise that fans will feel “overwhelmed with the feeling and the sentimentality of what this show was” when it’s all over.

Brent Fletcher explained in a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly, “It’s meant to make you leave with big feelings. We want you to miss the show when it’s over. So, hopefully it works. We were happy with it when we were done, for sure.”

Todd Helbing noted that the final episode would have a mix of ‘hopefulness and sadness’ to it. He then added, “There’s love, there’s every feeling. And I think in some of the most successful … we watched a lot of series finales, and talked about a lot of them, what worked, and what didn’t. We wanted to emulate some of the best as far as what an audience is going to feel when they stop watching it.”

Fletcher and Helbing originally planned the show to last seven seasons, but CW bosses Dennis Miller and Brad Schwartz confirmed earlier this year that Season 4 would be the last.

This forced the showrunners to drop a storyline involving the Phantom Zone in favor of focusing on Superman and Lois Lane for the limited 10-episode run. Other than this, the creators said there weren’t any other major changes they had to make.

“It’s pretty dramatic the whole way through,” Fletcher shared. “There’s not really any downbeats. It gets moving pretty quickly from the beginning, and it goes for 10 episodes. So, that was one of the things that really worked in our favor.”

The final season will pick up where Season 3 left off, following Superman’s fight with Doomsday. The storyline, based on the ‘Death of Superman’ comic arc, will likely end with Clark’s death in battle.

Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will return as Superman and Lois Lane for the final season.
