Amanda Seyfried Would Accept Sabrina Carpenter Playing Her Daughter In ‘Mamma Mia 3’

At her Short ‘N Sweet tour stop in New York City, the singer sang the song from the first film.

Amanda Seyfried supports the idea of Sabrina Carpenter playing her daughter in ‘Mamma Mia 3.’

In an interview with ABC News’ Will Ganss, Seyfried mentioned that while people say a third film will happen, she hasn’t seen a script yet. When asked about Carpenter singing ‘Mamma Mia’ during her tour and if she could play Sophie’s daughter, the actress replied, “It’s…eh…. It’s…. Technically she could.”

When it was mentioned that Cher and Meryl Streep played mother and daughter in ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ despite being just three years apart, Seyfried agreed and said, “You’re right, actually, [it] doesn’t matter.”

She continued, “You know what? Old age makeup for me. That’s what it will be…. I’m an actor. I’ll do it. If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen. It’s fine. She’s…I’m a big fan.”

The actress played Sophie in the 2008 musical movie and its 2018 sequel, ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.’ Seyfried said this after Christine Baranski, who played Tanya in the movies, told The Hollywood Reporter that the producer, Judy Craymer, shared the story of the third film with her during a recent meeting.

“That’s all I can say! But, it’s not like, ‘Oh, I wish it could happen!’ Judy Craymer makes things happen,” Baranski shared. “She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn’t put it past Judy Craymer to get everybody back together.”

Baranski is not the only one from the original cast who wants to return for another movie. Colin Firth, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, and Stellan Skarsgård have also shown interest. Even Meryl Streep, whose character died in the last film, is excited to come back.

“I told [producer Judy Craymer] if she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I’m into that,” Streep told Vague last year. “Or it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died.”

Craymer mentioned earlier last year that her plans for a third movie were just starting. She feels there is potential for a trilogy.
