Tim Burton’s 1989 film ‘Batman’ is finally getting a long-awaited sequel.
John Jackson Miller’s new book ‘Batman: Resurrection’ will continue the story of Michael Keaton’s Batman. As per ComicBook.com, the novel takes place after the events of the movie, where The Joker (Jack Nicholson) is dead, but his presence still looms over Gotham City. Gotham was saved, but the city is far from safe. Batman continues his nightly patrols to protect the innocent, and Bruce Wayne struggles with his future during the day. He questions if he will ever be able to live a life beyond Batman’s shadow.
Gotham is facing new dangers as The Joker’s former gang members carry out a series of arson attacks across the city. Adding to the chaos, survivors of The Joker’s chemical weapon are filling the city’s hospital. Bruce Wayne joins forces with a scientist to deal with the health crisis, and Batman tries to figure out who is pulling the strings behind the scenes.
The story also shows us Bruce Wayne’s personal struggles. He starts having nightmares about The Joker, Alfred, Vicki Vale, and his parents Thomas and Martha Wayne. His obsession with saving Gotham begins to create distance between him and Vicki, and Alfred worries that being Batman is making things worse for Bruce, not better.
There’s also a mystery at the heart of ‘Batman: Resurrection’ — Batman starts to wonder if The Joker could’ve somehow survived.
The novel is part of a planned duology. It’s set to be released on October 15 by Random House Worlds.
