Kyle Chandler joined DC Universe’s upcoming ‘Lanterns’ series last month. James Gunn celebrated his addition to the cast of his and Peter Safran’s rebooted franchise in a recent Instagram post.
He wrote, “Welcome to the DCU, Kyle Chandler! Now our Hal Jordan in ‘Lanterns.’”
Chandler’s casting news came after a few names including Josh Brolin, Matthew McConaughey, and Ewan McGregor were rumored for the role. Weeks later, the DC Studios also confirmed Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan’s partner, John Stewart.
Stewart and Jordan will team up in ‘Lanterns’ to solve a murder mystery that will later reportedly affect the DCU’s future. The series’ first season will officially run for eight episodes and have Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King as executive producers.
‘Lanterns’ will mark the first live-action show under Gunn and Safran’s leadership. The lineup will expand in the coming years with Season 2 of ‘Peacemaker,’ ‘Booster Gold,’ ‘Waller,’ and the Wonder Woman prequel series ‘Paradise Lost.’
The rebooted universe will also delve into animation with ‘Creature Commandos,’ premiering December 5. On the cinematic front, Gunn’s ‘Superman’ movie will premiere on July 11, 2025.
