Director Slams Elon Musk Over Stealing His Ideas In ‘I, Robot’

He posted images comparing the designs and asked Musk to give him his ideas back.

‘I, Robot’ director Alex Proyas accused Tesla CEO Elon Musk of using designs from his 2004 sci-fi movie for Tesla’s new projects.

Proyas shared his complaint on X, saying, “Hey Elon, Can I have my designs back please?” He also posted images showing similarities between Tesla’s new products and designs from ‘I, Robot.’

Proyas compared the Optimus robot to the autonomous police robots in I, Robot, Tesla’s robovan to the transport vehicles in the film, and Tesla’s cybercab to a futuristic car that appears in the movie.

Musk revealed the new self-driving prototypes the cybercab and the robovan last Thursday. The Tesla Optimus robot was serving drinks and interacting with the crowd at the event.

‘I, Robot’ is a movie set in Chicago in 2035, and it’s based on Isaac Asimov’s 1950 short-story collection. The film stars Will Smith as a detective investigating a murder that might’ve been committed by an autonomous robot named Sonny. The robots in the film are governed by the three laws of robotics.

Proyas is currently working on a new sci-fi film called ‘R.U.R.’ Musk hasn’t publicly responded to Proyas’ claims.
