Keanu Reeves believes the tough stunts in ‘John Wick’ helped make the movie successful.
“I had so many wonderful teachers and guidance and worked with so many talented actors, actresses, and stunt people in the sense of it’s such a dance and collaboration and cooperation,” Reeves said of his time in the film. “So there’s a couple of times where you throw up or puke or whatever, but that’s what makes it good!”
The movie was a hit and led to three sequels. It earned over $1 billion worldwide. The films have some intense and violent fight scenes, including one where Keanu’s Wick uses a pencil as a weapon against an enemy.
The John Wick series started in 2014 when Reeves’ character, a retired assassin, sought revenge on gangsters who killed his dog. Known as Baba Yaga, he returned for more action in sequels: ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ in 2017, ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum’ in 2019, and ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ in 2023.
Even though John dies at the end of the fourth film, the story continues. A prequel TV series, ‘The Continental: From the World of John Wick,’ came out on Peacock the same year. Plus, ‘Ballerina,’ set between the third and fourth movies, is set to release in theaters on June 6, 2025.
“I got to work with Ana de Armas, and the director Len Wiseman, and they had a great script, and John Wick has a small part to play in it,” Reeves previously spoke with Entertainment Weekly. “Len Wiseman was cool. He was like, ‘Where do you want to pitch this story in [the] timeline?’ So, it takes place between chapter 3 and chapter 4 of the ‘John Wick’ stories. It was fun to put the suit back on.”
There’s still an interest in a fifth ‘John Wick’ movie. Producer Erica Lee recently hinted at it and said she’s excited about more spin-offs and shows. She also mentioned that Wick’s fate might not be final. So, there is a possibility that he could still be alive.
