There has been speculation that Glen Powell could take over the lead role in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise from Tom Cruise, but Powell has no interest in the role.
Speaking to ESPN’s Pat McAfee, Powell said of leading ‘Mission: Impossible,’ “My mom would never let me do that.” He added, “That’s the worst gig in town, everybody knows that. That’s a death trap.”
Cruise has famously performed dangerous stunts himself in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies, often without a stunt double.
The eighth installment in the series, ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,’ premiered, signaling that this would be the final story for Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt.
Powell and Cruise are working together on another popular movie franchise. Powell joined the ‘Top Gun’ sequel as a pilot named Hangman, who initially seemed like a potential villain but became one of the breakout characters of the movie. It has been confirmed that Hangman will return for ‘Top Gun 3’ and Powell will once again star alongside Cruise and Maverick alumnus Miles Teller.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was released in theaters a few years ago. A third ‘Top Gun’ movie is in production.
