‘Captain America’ star Anthony Mackie wants to take on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
In an interview with Nerdbunker, Mackie was asked about Sam Wilson facing Downey’s Doctor Doom as the new Captain America. He replied, “Robert Downey Jr. has had his a**-kicking coming for a long time, and I’m very proud to say he [is] going to get it!”
Downey is rumored to appear in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ and take the lead in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ With the actor returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has become a major film in The Multiverse Saga. Many MCU actors are excited to see him back on screen.
Earlier this month, Mackie also shared his experience working with Harrison Ford, who plays the villain Red Hulk in ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’ The actor noted, “What was really interesting and it shows the nature and the beauty of Harrison Ford — when he got to set, he pulled me aside, and he was like ‘Hey kid,’ — and I’m 46 years old.”
“He goes ‘Hey kid, this is your movie. I’m here to support you. And I’m here to make sure after this movie comes out, everyone knows your name.’ And there are a lot of people on his level that would not do that. There are a lot of people at his scale of work who would not do that,” Anthony also said.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ filming starts in Spring 2025, bringing back many MCU actors for the final parts of The Multiverse Saga. Downey Jr. will reunite with cast members he hasn’t worked with since ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ With so many MCU characters, Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will face plenty of battles.
Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will create a complicated war in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ since many heroes will see him as Tony Stark, their lost ally from ‘Endgame.’ The movie will need to explain why this variant is Doctor Doom in his world. Marvel might draw from various comics to show why he is Victor in another universe, but the direction for this Phase 6 movie is still unclear.
