‘Kraven The Hunter’ Tracking To Be Sony’s Lowest Spider-Verse Opening Yet: Worse Than ‘Madame Web’

The new spinoff is expected to be the worst release in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

‘Kraven the Hunter’ is projected to have a disappointing opening weekend, with estimated earnings of only $13 to $15 million, according to ComicBook. This figure is even lower than ‘Madame Web’s opening of $17.6 million, which was previously the lowest for a Sony Spider-Man-related film.

Despite Aaron Taylor-Johnson starring as the lead, J.C. Chandor (‘Triple Frontier’) is directing the film in tough competition against Disney’s ‘Moana 2’ and Universal’s ‘Wicked.’ If ‘Kraven’ lands in third place, it will be the first film in the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) to not debut in the top two spots.

The SSU includes six films: ‘Venom,’ ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage,’ ‘Morbius,’ ‘Madame Web,’ ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ and ‘Kraven the Hunter.’

Most of these features are critical failures on top of being box office flops. ‘Kraven’ currently has the second lowest score on Rotten Tomatoes with 14% following ‘Morbius’ 15% and topping ‘Madame Web’s 11%.

Because of this, Sony already decided to pull the plug on Spider-Man spinoffs. The studio is now focused on the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4,’ due for release in July 2026, as well as ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ and the ‘Spider-Noir’ live-action series.

‘Kraven the Hunter’ is set to end a difficult year for Sony, featuring other underperforming titles like ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ and ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon.’ The film will hit theaters on December 13.
