Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Wolverine’ star Ryan Reynolds shared an important update about the character Wade Wilson, explaining whether ‘Deadpool 4’ will happen and why he will never join the Avengers or X-Men.
He reiterated his previous comments on Wade Wilson’s situation and revealed what he doesn’t want to do next with the character.
Reynolds stated that there are no updates yet to share about ‘Deadpool’s future in the MCU. He said that his favorite character trait about Deadpool is that he is a fanboy. He then added about Deadpool, “But I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man,” Reynolds confirmed. “If he becomes either, we’re at the end.”
When asked if that means he would turn down ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ or even the eventual ‘X-Men’ reboot, he responded, “Just the opposite! I think ‘Deadpool’ works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted.”
“His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey,” Reynolds confirmed.
The actor also mentioned he had ideas: “”I have some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on ‘Deadpool.’ He is a great supporting or ensemble player. And I would always want Deadpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way.”
‘Deadpool’ is a 2016 superhero film directed by Tim Miller, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. In the movie, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) hunts the man who gave him mutant abilities and a scarred physical appearance and becomes the anti-hero Deadpool.
