Filmmaker James Gunn announced on Friday that the trailer for ‘Superman’ was viewed more than 250 million times within its first day of release.
“Krypto really did take us home: With over 250 million views and a million social posts, ‘Superman’ is officially the most viewed and the most talked about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros. This is because of all of you: thank you! We’re incredibly grateful and, most of all, excited to share this movie with you in July. Happy Holidays” Gunn shared on social media.
The trailer’s milestone surpasses the first ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ trailer, which garnered 167 million views in its first 24 hours. It also beat the ‘Inside Out 2’ trailer, which previously held the record for the year with 157 million views. However, Marvel’s ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Wolverine’ trailer continues to hold the all-time record with 365 million views in its first day.
The ‘Superman’ teaser gave audiences their first look at David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, as well as Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and several other heroes set to populate the revamped DC Universe. These include Krypto the Superdog, Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), and Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan). The teaser also highlighted the romance between Superman and Lois Lane, portrayed by Rachel Brosnahan.
“We’re embracing all of the ‘Superman’ mythology,” Gunn told Variety in an interview. “He has friends who are other superheroes. He has people he doesn’t get along as well with who are other superheroes. He has a lot of the things that we love from the ‘Superman’ comics that we haven’t been able to see as much of in filmed media, and definitely haven’t been able to see in a grounded way, which is what I hope we’ve created.”
James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ is set to open in theaters on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
