‘Grinch’ fans have launched a petition on Change.org requesting a 4-hour director’s cut of Jim Carrey’s The ‘Grinch.’ The petition demands that all deleted scenes, including unseen footage not included in the home video release, be reintegrated into the film, with the additional request to upgrade the deleted scenes to HD.
Since its release in 2000, Jim Carrey’s ‘Grinch’ has become a holiday classic, and now fans hope to see the original 4-hour version that director Ron Howard once mentioned. The petition proposes that completing this extended cut would involve reintegrating all scenes into the mix and potentially adding new bonus features. These could include commentary from Carrey and Taylor Momsen, as well as original storyboards and concept art.
The petition page outlines numerous deleted scenes that fans would like restored, including extended sequences showcasing more of Carrey’s ‘Grinch’ causing chaos.
Director Ron Howard previously revealed that the original cut of the film was four hours long, leaving about two hours of footage on the cutting room floor.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Jim Carrey revealed he is considering reprising his roles as both the Grinch from ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ and Stanley Ipkiss from ‘The Mask.’
About a potential ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2,’ the actor explained, “The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process. The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”
The petition currently has over 1,700 signatures.
