‘Cobra Kai’ co-creator and producer Jon Hurwitz has revealed that he is “actively working on” at least one spinoff as the series finale nears.
‘Cobra Kai’ will conclude on February 13, 2025, when Season 6, Episode 3 premieres on Netflix. However, when a fan on X asked Hurwitz if there will be spinoffs focusing on specific characters, he replied, “I hope so.”
The series has had a remarkable journey—from viral videos in the early 2000s to becoming a YouTube Red series, and finally a Netflix original. While the show is ending, The ‘Karate Kid’ franchise continues with a new movie,’ Karate Kid: Legends,’ set to debut on May 30, 2025. Although Ralph Macchio stars in both productions, Hurwitz has clarified that ‘Cobra Kai’ and ‘Legends’ are not directly connected.
Hurwitz hinted at spinoffs during an informal Q&A on X this Sunday. While he didn’t provide further details or answer follow-up questions, fans shared their excitement and speculated about potential storylines. Many expressed hopes for a sequel featuring younger ‘Cobra Kai’ characters who could become sensei and open their own dojos.
Speculation about spinoffs is also tied to Legends and whether it will leave room for ‘Cobra Kai.’ In 2022, Hurwitz tweeted that Legends “isn’t from us or focused on the ‘Cobra Kai’ cast.” When asked if the movie would “acknowledge the Netflix show in any way,” Hurwitz wrote: “I haven’t seen the movie, but i hear Daniel LaRusso’s in it!”
Meanwhile, ‘Legends’ director Jonathan Entwistle provided the best hint yet about potential connections between the two productions. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated “I’ve had some really detailed conversations with the ‘Cobra Kai’ team about just cool stuff that [they] can do in the movie and… make this whole thing feel holistic.”
‘Cobra Kai’ Season 6, Episode 3 will air on Netflix on February 13, 2025. ‘Karate Kid: Legends’ will hit theaters on May 30, 2025.
