Disney has made many live-action remakes of its classic animated films. Fans are excited to see more, and here are five films they’d love to see get the live-action treatment next.
5. The Princess And The Frog
According to The Direct, rumors about a live-action remake of ‘The Princess and the Frog’ are circulating online. A fan-made poster suggests that Disney is planning to release the movie in 2025, with Marsai Martin, known for ‘Black-ish,’ playing the lead role of Tiana.
LaKeith Stanfield and Caleb McLaughlin are also listed in the cast. While the poster has gone viral, there’s no official confirmation yet from Disney. However, the franchise is still active with a ‘Tiana’ series in development for Disney+, although it was delayed to 2024.
4. Atlantis: The Lost Empire
Rumors about a live-action ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’ remake have been circulating after viral images appeared online, including AI-generated pictures of Millie Bobby Brown as Kida, as shared by The Direct.
However, these images are fake and there are no official plans from Disney for a live-action remake. Disney directors have previously denied these rumors (via MovieWeb). Recently, a TikTok video claiming to show a leaked trailer for the film is also fan-made.
While there’s still interest in a remake, there’s no confirmation from Disney, and given the film’s poor box office performance in 2001, it’s unclear if a live-action version will ever happen. It might be good thanks to visual effects and modern cinematography.
3. Hercules
As reported by Screen Rant, Disney’s live-action ‘Hercules’ remake is in development, with Joe and Anthony Russo producing and Guy Ritchie directing. With gods, myths, and legendary creatures, this animated classic could make a great live-action film full of humor and action.
A new rumor suggests the movie will focus on the villain, Hades, rather than Hercules himself, potentially solving a plot hole from the animated film (The DisInsider via CBR).
In the original, Hades should have known Hercules survived after Pain and Panic failed to kill him, but the remake could show Hades’ perspective and explain why he didn’t find out until later. This shift could also explore Hades’ past with Zeus and his relationship with other characters like Megara.
2. The Black Cauldron
A darker story from Disney could take a dramatic turn with live-action and appeal to a new audience, as stated by Screen Rant. Disney could make its first true horror movie by remaking ‘The Black Cauldron’ a 1985 film. The original movie mixed adventure with dark, supernatural elements and was Disney’s first PG-rated film due to its scary scenes.
A live-action remake could enhance the horror with modern CGI. While the original was a box office flop, it developed a cult following. A remake could bring back Disney’s darker style. It could also show Disney focusing on less appreciated movies, not just classics
1. Treasure Planet
There are rumors about a live-action ‘Treasure Planet’ remake, driven by the film’s cult classic status and new popularity on Disney+, Screen Rant reported. The 2002 animated movie, a sci-fi pirate reimagining of ‘Treasure Island,’ has inspired speculation, especially since Disney acquired Lucasfilm.
The original film’s space-opera style would suit Lucasfilm’s expertise, making them an ideal choice for the remake. While no official announcement has been made, fans hope Disney will remake it. Some original voice cast members might return. If made, the remake is expected to stay true to the original story.
