In a new interview with Variety, ‘Squid Game’ creator Hwang Dong-hyuk announced the Season 3 release date.

“At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious,” the director replied when asked when Season 3 will premiere, and what he can share about the final episodes. “But what I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon.”

He continued, “I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year. But as for the storyline of the third season, Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all of his attempts going to failure, it’s now, what is he going to be like? What state is Gi-hun going to be in?”

“And what will he choose to do? Will he continue on with the mission? Is he going to give up or persist? And so you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in Season 2,” Dong-hyuk added.

In ‘Squid Game’ Season 2, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) returns to the deadly game to find out who is behind it and stop them. He tries to warn other contestants, including his old friend Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), how to survive. But the game’s organizers, including the mysterious Front Man, Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun), are always ahead of him.

Before Season 2 was released, Hwang also told AP News, “‘Squid Game’ Season 3 will explore a story set 10–20 years in the future. It will be darker and more sorrowful, but also surprisingly humorous.”

‘Squid Game’ Season 2 ends with a shocking moment: Gi-hun’s friend, Jung-bae, is killed by The Front Man right in front of him. The Front Man, who is actually In-ho, a past winner, had been pretending to be Player 001 to gain trust and later betrayed them. The death is especially painful for viewers, who know In-ho’s true identity, while Gi-hun doesn’t.
