Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who plays Ben Grimm/The Thing in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ recently talked about the film’s production on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ When asked, he confirmed that his character didn’t smoke in the screen-adaptation, unlike the comics, with a simple ‘No.’
Regarding his character’s catchphrase, ‘It’s Clobberin’ Time,’ Moss-Bachrach said, “I slipped it in there a couple of times. We’ll see what happens. I don’t have final cut on this one, so we’ll see.”
This means more possible changes ahead for the live-action story to better suit Disney’s audience.
‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ will introduce Marvel’s First Family to the MCU in a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world. Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm/Human Torch will face off against Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner).
Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne will also appear in the movie. While their roles are undisclosed, the cast is excited about the project. Lyonne shared last October, “I’m old enough to know that the whole thing is a gift and gravy and rare and I’m taking it in stride.”
Matt Shakman directed ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ whose script he co-wrote with Josh Friedman, Cam Squires, and Eric Pearson. The film will see release on July 25, 2025.
