In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Adam Devine humorously shared the story behind his recent weight loss, revealing that it was motivated by the possibility of landing a superhero movie role.

“I feel like this year, I’m in such a good rhythm with this that I just want to stay on it,” Devine said about shedding the extra weight. “And for me, I like where I’m at.”

“I’m not trying to get super lean,” he added. “I just want to be in a place where if Marvel calls, I can answer.”

Devine joked about being ready for a superhero transformation: “If my phone rings and it’s James Gunn saying, ‘Hey, we’re ready to bring you into the DC universe,’ I could say, ‘Hey, give me a couple of months, and I’ll be there.'”

‘The Pitch Perfect’ star has partnered with MyFitnessPal, an all-in-one food tracker and health app, to help maintain his fitness journey.

Devine also opened up about gaining “sympathy weight” during his wife Chloe Bridges’ pregnancy with their first child, son Beau, born in February 2024.

Devine joked, “Chloe, she was eating for two and building a human child. I wasn’t building a human child, but it looked like I was,” the father of one continues. “I gained more weight than she did — I gained 28 pounds, I think she gained, like, 26 pounds.”
