The DC Universe’s upcoming ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ movie, starring ‘House of the Dragon’ star Milly Alcock, has officially started filming in the UK. Additionally, it has been announced that Jason Momoa will portray the anti-hero bounty hunter Lobo in the film.
The movie marks one of the first major steps in James Gunn’s reimagined superhero continuity, following the release of ‘Superman: Legacy,’ which is scheduled to debut this summer.
Currently in production at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is directed by Craig Gillespie, known for his work on ‘Cruella’ and ‘I, Tonya.’
Gunn has described the project, based on the comic book of the same name, as a departure from the traditional portrayal of Superman, emphasizing the differences between the two characters.
“Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story, she is a character raised on a chunk of Krypton,” Gunn explained. “She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”
Former Supergirl Melissa Benoist shared her thoughts on Milly Alcock taking on the role in DC Universe’s ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’ She expressed her support for the new interpretation, saying, “I think any and all takes on the character are valuable because of what she stands for. Supergirl as an entity is iconic for a reason and has been since the ’50s. I personally think that every iteration of her is valuable for young women to see, and hopefully [with] every take on her, someone will see themselves in it.”
The direction for Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl will closely align with the ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ comic book series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, which serves as the primary source material for the movie.
